Hypertension Canada Announces Appointment of President and 2016-2017 Board of Directors

January 10, 2017 Markham, ON – Hypertension Canada, the nation's provider of the hypertension clinical practice guidelines, is pleased to announce the appointment Dr. Nadia Khan as President following the 2016-2017 elections at its Annual General Meeting on October 20, in Montreal, Quebec.

“This is an exciting time of transition for Hypertension Canada,” said Dr. Nadia Khan, President of Hypertension. “I’m honoured to help build on the excellent foundation from Dr. Ernesto Schiffrin, our immediate Past-President, and my colleagues on the Board. I’m confident that, together, we will continue to lead the world in early detection of high blood pressure, its treatment and overall management.”

Dr. Khan is a Professor of Medicine at the University of British Columbia, scientist and general internist. She has served as a member of the Hypertension Canada Guidelines Committee and as Chair of the Research Policy Committee.

The Board also appointed Mr. Glen Doucet, who has served on the Board since 2014, to Vice-President. Mr. Doucet is Vice President, Advocacy and Public Affairs at the Canadian Pharmacists Association, and has more than 20 years’ expertise in government relations, policy development, strategic communications, and governmental regulatory processes.

In addition to the President, Past-President and Vice-President appointments, the Board welcomes two new Directors: Dr. Alan Bell, a prominent primary care physician, who has led the Canadian Cardiovascular Society’s guidelines committee and atrial fibrillation guideline primary panel; and Dr. Guy Tremblay, a cardiologist and clinical professor of Medicine at Laval University, who has played a leading role in the widespread dissemination and adoption of clinical practice guidelines, including Hypertension Canada’s own.

Together, they join the current and re-elected Directors led by Dr. Khan, to complete the 14-member Board: Mr. Barry Arbus, Dr. Ross Feldman, Mr. Trevor Hudson, Mr. David Lui, Dr. Janusz Kaczorowski, Ms. Dorothy Morris, Dr. Ernesto Schiffrin, Dr. Sheldon Tobe, Dr. Raj Padwal, and Dr. Ross Tsuyuki.
